Welcome

The day is dedicated to the considerations for and management of anaesthesia in patients with concurrent diseases.

Delegates may be involved in anaesthetising high risk patients for either emergency or routine procedures. Patients with severe comorbidities require individualised treatment approaches to achieve stabilization of physiological parameters and decrease the risk associated with general anaesthesia.

The morning lectures will highlight the anaesthetic challenges and management of patients with intracranial, endocrine, cardiovascular and renal disease.

In the afternoon case discussion will be approached in small groups interactive sessions. These sessions aim to highlight considerations for anaesthesia and analgesia of critical care patients and discuss the main problems that general practitioner may face when dealing with these cases.

Learning objectives:

Describe the possible anaesthetic complications when dealing with critically ill patients
Describe how to stabilise critical patients before general anaesthesia
Formulate an appropriate anaesthetic plan for patients with concurrent diseases
Construct analgesic plans for patients with severe pain
